FOSSE DANCE WORKSHOP ~ 12-18 yr
Mondays, December 21st and 28th, 10am-11:30am Deon will focus on FOSSE and his very unique style of dance, with our 12-18 year olds. Spotlight’s Summer Camp 2021 for older teens will be CHICAGO, and much of the dance in this incredible musical is FOSSE choreography. This will be a great way to prep for Summer Camp or just become more knowledgeable and capable in this challenging and fun style of dance. Workshop held via Zoom. JAZZ DANCE WORKSHOP ~ 7-11 yr

Masterclass with Hamilton Actor - Marc dela Cruz
Do you love HAMILTON, the Musical?
Would you like to spend 3 hours with one of Broadway’s Hamilton cast members in a “behind the scenes” Zoom meeting to learn all about the Hamilton audition process, rehearsals and finally what it is like to perform the lead role of Alexander Hamilton on Broadway? Would you like to receive individual coaching on your audition material from a current Broadway Professional? If so, then this workshop is for you. Spotlight is thrilled to offer this unique opportunity to 12 students only. (Only 2 Spots left) Marc dela Cruz will share the inside scoop about working in the Broadway Hit musical, Hamilton, and then each student will receive individual coaching on an audition song. This is only being offered to the first 12 students to register so that everyone has quality time to work on their solo piece with him. Marc's bio is below and more details can be found on the registration page. This workshop is appropriate for children aged 11 and older who have the ability to select a 32 bar cut audition song and find a track to match it that will be used in this masterclass. WHO SHOULD ATTEND THE WORKSHOP?
Anyone who hopes to be accepted into a college program in the performing arts. The process of applying to these programs is complex and daunting. With an increased number of applicants having higher levels of training and preparedness, the competition is such that most programs are accepting less than 5% of applicants. Let Spotlight Musical Theatre Academy provide you with inside tips for success.
WHO WILL LEAD THE WORKSHOP?
Lisa Mitchell, owner and principal of Spotlight Musical Theatre Academy, recently navigated the confusing, and often times overwhelming, process required to apply and audition for an Acting and Musical Theatre program. Three years ago, her daughter auditioned for 12 theatre programs across the US. Lisa has been hired by Oregon Children's Theatre and numerous families to provide workshops and individual consulting that has resulted in student's success in admission to various university programs. Lisa's goal is to provide you with inside tips for success.
Lisa will speak with parents about ALL ASPECTS of the application, prescreen, on campus, unified, and call back auditions. She will share her personal experience of successfully taking her daughter through these auditions nationwide, including 3 years of researching the college theatre audition process, how they organized themselves during her daughter’s junior year in high school and the process that they went through during the senior year of applications and auditions.

BIO FOR DEON RIDLEY has performed both on and off-Broadway. His Broadway credits include A Christmas Carol starring Frank Langella at The Theatre at Madison Square Garden and The Lion King. In 2001 Deon performed with the King of Pop Michael Jackson at Madison Square Garden along with a line of celebrities including Whitney Houston, Usher, Jill Scott, Mya, Missy Elliott, Monica, Al Jerau, Deborah Cox and Gloria Gaynor for Michael Jackson’s 30th Anniversary Celebration. Internationally Deon has performed in many shows including Cats in Hamburg, Germany and has been featured in shows throughout Europe and Asia. On tour, Deon has been seen in shows such as Damn Yankees and Fame the Musical. In 2003 Deon was featured as leading dancer and dance captain for Grammy Award Winning singer Celine Dion in her Las Vegas premiere show called A New Day at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas with Director Franco Dragone and Emmy award-winning choreographer Mia Michaels. His most recent credits include the world premiere of Secondhand Lions the Musical at 5th Ave Theatre in Seattle with Emmy award winning choreographer Joshua Bergasse and The Wiz at Maltz Jupiter Theatre in Jupiter, Florida, Spamalot at the North Carolina Theatre in Raleigh, North Carolina. Deon was featured as a dancer for Netflix's hit series The Get Down and was also featured as a dancer for Weight Watchers commercial starring Ana Gesteyer. His work as a choreographer includes having choreographed several music videos for recording artists in the entertainment industry and most recently Hairspray the Musical for Maltz Jupiter’s Conservatory for the Arts, Assistant Choreographer for NYU Tisch School for the Arts production of In the Heights, and Associate Choreographer for Meadow Brooks Theatre Production of Sistas the Musical in Rochester, Michigan. Deon has choreographed for events throughout Las Vegas with Marketing Entertainment Company Freestyle Xpressions choreographing for events such as the opening night gala for Michael Jackson’s This Is It movie Premiere at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas.
